Democrat Booths Did Great At Island County Fair In 2009

Island County Democrats made a big appearance at the Island County Fair, August 13 - 16. We had a political information booth as well as our prime-location food booth serving hot dogs, salads, baked potatoes, chili and a variety of things to go with them. Here are some pictures:

Langley Forum Was Held On Healthcare

Forum was held at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation Church, Freeland on Sept 22, 2009. Panelists included a retired medical doctor, a psychiatrist, a nursing expert, a public health administrator and an anthropologist with health industry experience.

Quite a large number of you turned out to let the city of Mount Vernon and the country at large know your thoughts about Glenn Beck Day on September 26. Thanks to all of you who protested!

Yes!! Many, many thanks to all of you who voted to Approve Referendum 71 and who voted NO on Initiative 1033.

Island County joined most of Western Washington in voting with Island County Democrats on these two issues.

Editor Resigning after 10 Years of Newsletters

Marti Anamosa has produced the ICD newsletter for most of the last 10 years and is resigning because, “it’s time for some new fingers on the keyboard.” She adds, “It has been a pleasure and a privilege to write you every few weeks over the years, and I wish continued success for Island County Democrats. Stay in touch, and think Blue.”

Ron Wilkinson Resigns as ICD Chair

Ron Wilkinson of Coupeville has resigned as Chair of Island County Democrats, effective December 31. Ron will be moving out of state in a month or so, but said that "I consider Island County to be home and look forward to being able to return as a full-time resident."

Erica Schumacher of Oak Harbor, Vice Chair of ICD, has been elected new Chair at the January general meeting of Island County Democrats. Erica has been very actively involved with ICD and election campaigns of Island County Democratic candidates for the last several election cycles. She has organized numerous Island County Democratic events and campaign gatherings over the last five years, and worked on campaigns of many of our elected officials. Washington State Democratic Convention – ONLINE!

We're gearing up for the Washington State Democratic Convention this Friday and Saturday, June 25 & 26, and looking forward to seeing many of you in Vancouver.

For those of you who can't make it, and for friends, family and volunteers who want to follow the convention from home, TVW will be livestreaming the entire convention on the web, and the Vancouver Columbian will have comprehensive coverage and a live Twitter feed on their politics page.

Highlights include Senators Murray and Wyden, as well as Governor Gregoire, speaking at the Gala Banquet on Friday, federal candidates speeches on Saturday morning, and DNC Chair Governor Tim Kaine speaking at lunch on Saturday.
